A Study On Preservation Value Evaluation Of Born Digital Resources

There are a lot of born digital resources in open network environment. On one hand,born-digital which belongs to part of cultural heritage can reflect the status of contemporarypeople’s work and life. And at the same time, the life cycle of born-digital resource is veryshort. It’s easy to disappear. So it is very important to preserve born digital for long time. Onthe other hand, due to the deficiency of network supervision, the quality of internet resourcesis out of control, if we preserve all the resources, it will not only waste kinds of resource, butalso some false information will also affect people to make use of internet resource in thefuture. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the value of born digital protection, providingthe gist for institutions of preserving digital resources how to choose born-digital resources.First of all, this paper puts forward the purpose and meaning of evaluating the value ofborn-digital protection on the basis of understanding the research status at home and abroad.After, this paper discusses the concept, types, characteristics of born-digital, pointing out maincharacteristics which are different from regeneration of network resources, and discussesobjective of evaluation and value expression of born-digital, such as historical record value,scientific education value and so on, which provides the theoretical foundation for the laterparagraph. Secondly, this article defines the meaning of value evaluation for born-digitalpreservation, and puts forward the thought of evaluation which is given priority to evaluatingthe quality of content. On the basis of confirming the principle and thoughts of evaluation,this paper evaluate the value of born-digital protection from three aspects which are contentquality evaluation, form and effect quality, user attention. Then this paper comes up withrelative standards for comprehensive assessment. In to determine whether born-digitalresource has preservation value or not, the writer thinks that different types of born digitalresources can be evaluated by qualitative judgment method respectively. Then for the degreeof worth protecting, we can evaluate it with quantitative methods which are AHP andcomprehensive scoring method. The born digital resources which acquire high scores can begiven priority to preserving. In the end, this paper discuses the preservation value of academicblog of science net as an example.
