As the important part of cultural industries, media industry is an importantcontent of the construction of spiritual civilization. It’s a manifestation of thecountry’s soft power and comprehensive national strength. This industry has placed ahuge role in the growth of the national economy and social progress. With theaccelerated process of economic globalization, the international competition of themedia industry has become increasingly fierce. In some developed countries, such asthe United States, Japan, Britain and other countries, media as an important industrialsector, has become a new economic growth point and pillar industries. Comparedwith developed countries, China’s media industry is still in a weak position. In theincreasingly fierce international competition, how to develop China’s media industry,how to improve the competitiveness of the media industry, is an urgent need toaddress the issue.This article is based on the concepts and theories of the media industry and theinternational competitiveness of the industry. On the basis of a comprehensiveanalysis of the status overview on the media industry, this article has constructed theindex system to evaluate the international competitiveness of China’s media industryfrom four aspects. They are the infrastructure competitiveness, the enterprise, themarket and the policy competitiveness. According to the data of2011, this article hasgiven a specific analysis of the various indicators and has made the horizontalcomparison with other countries. Using the method of the fuzzy evaluation, this paperhas finished the comprehensive judge. Then it has concluded that the internationalcompetiveness of China’s media industry is weak and China ranks behind in the tenselected countries. Finally, this paper has proposed the countermeasures to enhancethe competitiveness of China’s media industry.
