With the rapid development of economy, varioμ s fields have many requirements for theon-site monitoring and security guard technology, and the quality demand of videosurveillance is also gradually increase. In this case, the video monitoring system has also beengreatly developed, and video monitoring technology requirements are also increasingrapidly.The digital video technology has received considerable attention due to itsirreplaceable advantages in many ways, such as process, transitions, storage. The Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) has better reconfigurability and parallel processing abilitythan that of other conventional processor. It can realize the real-time video image processing,and is very applicable in the real-time video image processing.On the basis of analysis and research, a video acquisition system based on FPGA isproposed by this paper. The video acquisition module, the processing module and the displaymodule is integrated into to a hardware platform, which makes the video acquisition moreflexible and convenient and suitable for more applications. The CycloneII chip of AlteraCorporation is chosen as the core processing unit, and the peripheral circuits includes theComplementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) camera, the Synchronoμs DynamicRandom Access Memory (SDRAM) cache and the D/A conversion chip.The design of this system includes the hardware design and hardware language. In thedesign of the system the hardware, the power supply circuits, the download circuits, thecamera interfaces, the cache chips, the DA conversion chip and the Video Graphics Array(VGA) interfaces are designed, separately. Becaμ se the design of the hardware is the premiseand foundation of composition and the realization of FPGA video acquisition system, thehardware design is reasonable and correct to ensure the smooth execution of hardwarelanguage, andto ensure the video collection running correctly.In the design of hardware,thehardware description language is μsed to design the deferent system modulesincluding thecamera Inter-Integrated Circuitcommunication protocol, the read and write asynchronoμsFirst Input First Output (FIFO), the cache control SDRAM and the VGA display drivermodules. After completing each module design, the corresponding simulation sequence diagram is given, which verifies the rationality of the hardware language design.Experimentalresults confirm that the video acquisition system based on FPGA can realized the videoacquisition, and it has clear imagesand stability.
