With the development of electronic technology, Real-time Image Processing is widely used in many fields such as multimedia , image communication and so on. FPGA has became an ideal choice of hardware in real-time image processing. At the same time, the study about the dedicated system of image processing ,which is based on FPGA ,will be the new key-point of information industry.This dissertation introduces a real time image acquisition and storage system in detail, which is based on the FPGA development board. The system consists of three parts: Front-end video capture unit, Image storage unit, Image display unit. The main functions of this system are the follows. Firstly, it collects the video data which are transmitted by the camera .Secondly; it transforms the analog video into the digital video with the chip of SAA7113 of PHILIPS Company, which is an exclusive use chip on video decoder. Thirdly, the data that is collected by the camera are stored into the SDRAM which is embedded in the FPGA development board. Finally, the digital ideo signals are converted to analog signals by the SAA7121 (video encoder chip) and they are sent to the display and outputted. The system is developed on the software platform of Quartusâ…ˇ5.0 , ModelSim6.0 and then realized on FPGA, finally, it reaches the anticipated effect .The realization of image acquisition and display on FPGA is an effective, convenient and economic method . Consequently this subject has a wide prospect of application and market value.
