Our country product and consume a great deal of coal every year. Coal dressing is precondition of coal deep processing, clean and efficient utilization. It is not only to remove most of the impurities in raw coal, but is divided into different levels according to the size and content of coal gangue. The coal quality was improved. In recent years, Automation technology in coal preparation plants constantly improved. It is a trend that coal preparation plant gradually transforms to factory automation from single machine automation. But some old coal preparation equipments are aging, design behind, and there are multiple sets of monitoring system existed in one plant. This phenomenon lead to a system crash, lag phenomenon in the pictures and so on. The monitoring system can’t meet the production requirement in the plant. It needs to upgrade of the monitoring system of coal preparation to ensure the plant run efficiently and safely. In order to meet the needs of the enterprises, we designed a set of monitoring system based on iFIX to replace the existing monitoring system, to improve the ability of control and monitoring.This paper introduces the detail of production process after studying the whole process of the coal preparation plant. This paper makes comparation of monitoring software each other and expounds the advantages and disadvantages of each type of monitoring software, and the future development direction of monitoring software. Through the comparison between different monitoring software, we found iFIX has the advantages of the openness, security, and scalability, particularly suitable for the large-scale process automation. Eventually, it becomes the target which we choiced.According to coal production process, after the analysis and research, I have developed a monitoring system of coal preparation plant which can realize the whole plant automation. The software communicates between iFIX and PLC through S7_A driver, and simulates the real scene situation. The various operation parameters are displayed to the user at the interface in real-time and dynamic, and appropriate form. The user can monitor running status of equipment at the scene more intuitive and easily. At the same time, through the establishment of the external access database, the realization of a large number of real-time data and historical data can restore in it, such as equipment alarm and equipment operation information. The data query interface is convenient for operators to query data. The entire software system is managed through a user authorization way. User can access to different areas according to access permission. Only the administrator can log on the highest authority for editing. After the development, the monitoring system combined with the simulation of PLC for the simulation debugging. The system have modified for good performance.The monitoring system based on iFIX has applied to control the entire production process of coal preparation plant. The interface is friendly. The system is running stable, reliable, and has obtained the good effect of operation, and high praise of the company.
