Military fuel depot is the basic units where the fuel is stored, sent and received. Fuel storage capacity is the primary information for the project "military fuel logistics command automation system". To know the storage capacity of the primary oil tank on real-time and accurately could not only provide clear information but also make huge sense on making operational plans for the army command layer. This paper is relying on a sub-project of the project, aimed at achieving automated detection of the fuel storage capacity.In this thesis, the fuel storage capacity detection conducted in-depth theoretical analysis, the oil tank storage capacity formula is rigorously derived, the look-up table algorithm for rapid measurement of oil storage capacity is given, and numerous factors impacting the oil storage capacity calculation accuracy are analyzed. Moreover, the key technology of ultrasonic level measurement conducted in-depth studying. In order to improve the measurement accuracy, the FSK modulation is used in the ultrasonic ranging technology. The modulation domain measurement technology is discussed, applied for ranging technology during specific implementation process, which effective improves the measurement accuracy of ranging technology. To further improve the resolution of ultrasonic ranging technology, vernier time interpolation is introduced for ultrasonic ranging technology and a dual-band ultrasonic ranging program is proposed in this work. Moreover, the development process on the Xilinx ISE software platform is described in detail, a32-bit MicroBlaze soft-core embedded microprocessor is generated using Xilinx Platform Studio, and a fuel storage capacity detection system using a soft-core-based controller is developed. Basing on this soft core, the system extends the network port, USB and other communication interface, building the technical basis of the automated detection system.Through testing, the FSK-based ultrasonic ranging system can effectively improve ranging accuracy. MicroBlaze soft-core microcontroller can control the capacity detection system, and expand communication interface. Simulation results show the correctness for dual-band ultrasonic ranging program. The agreement between actual test and simulation results confirms the theory. Reasonable design and technical performance meet the design requirements.
