Recently, with economy gradually developing and people’s living standards continuing to improve, the proportion of the elderly population has increased rapidly in China. Then, the needs with the elderly health monitoring are growing, especially for the monitoring which can handle a variety of threats to the elderly. In China, the research of elderly monitoring and telemedicine is still backward now. Therefor, the research of BAN system for elderly monitoring has significant social meaning and practical value.In this thesis, a three-layer architecture is used for realizing the basic function of BAN system. The first layer is sensor nodes layer, which is worn on the elderly’s body to collect the physiological parameters. The second layer is hand-held terminal layer, which is used for collecting the data from senor nodes, positioning the elderly’s current location and transmiting the collected data to monitoring center. The third layer is monitoring center layer, which is used for receiving, processing and storing the elderly’s various information, and displaying them on the monitoring platform. The different communication protocals is used for data transmission through the three-layer. Based on Zigbee technology, the data transmission between sensor nodes layer and hand-held terminals layer is achieved. However, the data transmission between hand-held terminal layer and system platform layer is achieved by GPRS technology. Ultimately, in this thesis, the elderly monitoring platform is completed, which can achieve real-time monitoring to elderly physiological parameters, fell-detection, GPS positioning, emergency alarm and some other function. The system can fight precious time for first aid and reduce the incident harms to the elderly.In this thesis, firstly, the project background, development purpose and the meaning of the subject are mentioned, and the structure of the thesis is given. Then, the key technologies used in the system are introduced briefly. In the part of system analysis, the requirements analysis of the system are described, and the overall design of the system architecture is analyzed. In the part of system design, firstly, the Zigbee network-forming process and the data transmission format are proposed respectively. Secondly, the interface program is introduced. And then the database is designed with E-R diagram and database tables. At last the concrete design of each module is given. In the part of system implementation, the data reception and analysis is given firstly. And then the detailed implementation of each module is introduced. System test is introduced from the view of data transmission testing and software platform testing, and then the test conclusion is given. The test shows that the system meets the needs of users and can effectively keep the elderly away from life danger. At last, the work in this thesis is summarized and the further steps are prospected.
