The Research On Food Safety Reports Of Xiaoxiang Morning Newspaper

Food security is of vital importance to the nation’s economy and the people’s livelihood. From Guanshengyuan Moon Cake case to Sudan red case, from Jinhua ham case to the case of Nestle iodine excessive, a series of food safety issues tugged at the sensitive nerves of great masses that were forced to face food security problem by melamine-contaminated Sanlu infant formula in2008. Due to a succession of food safety incidents and the greater importance of the access to media for public information, it has a profound and far reaching significance to discuss how media report news on food security.By means of quantitative and qualitative analysis, this thesis takes the food security reports of Xiaoxiang Morning in recent five years as study object, which analyzes the content of the content from the aspects of quantity, themes, origins and coverage area of these reports. Through text analysis, it also discusses the wording, narrative techniques, keynotes, forum locations and length of these reports to analyze the characteristics of the food safety reports of Xiaoxiang Morning and indicate the merits and demerits of them in order to give other metro dailies a reference.It is studied that the food safety reports of Xiaoxiang Morning from2008to2012have a lot of advantages which are worth to draw lessons from such as searching for subjects from multiple perspectives, appealing to the ordinary people concerned with their livelihood with a high standard and a common view, focusing on balance-oriented by counterpoising praise and criticism and using bold headlines and large broadsheets. However, their monotonous report mode, thin subjects, low supervision level and overuse of hidden interview during their investigation should be avoided.Basing on the problems, the writer proposed some reform methods for future reports such as associating with a variety of report genres, verifying the news’resources, increasing positive guides, etc. This thesis holds that metropolis dailies can regulate food safety reports of mass media and enhance the dissemination results of food safety reports in many ways which include enhancement of the professional ethics and strengthenment of the media responsibility.
