Generally, the3D design for aircraft product is accomplished by CAD software. In order to enhancethe integration of knowledge and experience which is accumulated in aircraft design and manufacture,realize the sharing of standard, criterion and empirical data and improve the design quality andefficiency, a rapid design method is proposed based on the concept and technique of knowledgeengineering, parametric design and object-oriented software development and a rapid design moduleis developed on CATIA platform for aircraft machining parts which are the main components ofaircraft structure. By creating parametric feature template, knowledge base and design wizard in thisrapid design method, the hidden knowledge about design criterion, process and experience can beconverted to explicit information, which is essential for the rapid design of machining parts. Theapplication shows that the rapid design module can make the design more standardized, achieve theinheritance of design knowledge and experience, improve the design efficiency, and then exert apositive influence on the efficiency and quality promotion and cost reduction of aircraft productdesign and manufacture.The main research work of this thesis is summarized as follows:(1) Conclude typical geometric features of machining parts which are frequently used in the aircraftbody structure and describe the relevant design knowledge and criterion. Then abstract the generalinformation about design flow, standard and criterion for machining parts from the scatteredknowledge;(2) The parametric feature models for machining parts are created by parametric design method andthe knowledge about geometric features, parameters, formulas of parametric models is appended totemplate files for saving and invoking. On the basis of parametric feature models and template files,the rapid design for configuration of machining parts can be realized;(3) The key technology to integrating common features of machining parts with knowledgeengineering is researched to provide ways of realization for the appropriate relevance betweenfeatures and knowledge. On that basis, the rapid design functions library is established to inherit andreuse the machining parts design knowledge;(4) A rapid design module for aircraft machining parts is developed based on the above researchand technologies by the secondary development tool of CATIA. It can realize the rapid design formachining parts on CATIA V5R18platform.
