With the gradual rise of automation technology, no matter the traditional manufacturing industries or emerging manufacturing industries, they all have undergone enormous changes with this trend. Differ from handmade and simple machinery, the use of assisted mechanical design software allows enterprises to boost productivity, and allow them to win in the competition with other industries. Along with the design research, designers find that many products are of similar structure, that their differences only exist on certain parameters such as size. As a result, repeating design wastes a lot of time. Therefore, for CATIA software, which is one of the most powerful in assisted mechanical design software, designing and achieving three-dimensional parametric system and model library will be of great significance, which can also save a lot of repetitive work out the design link, greatly improve the efficiency of the design and manufacture.The rise of software engineering brings new development thought and technology. Object-oriented technology promotes software's reuse, but it only promotes the reuse of classes and class inheritance. Since the components appear, software's reuse has been fundamentally changed. Extending the software functionality gets unprecedented convenience. The thought, which is based on the software components, brings the gospel for the assisted mechanical design software's secondary development. CAA, which appears in CATIA's secondary development, was achieved based on the idea of software components. Now study the secondary development of CATIA by the CAA-based approach, and simultaneously achieve three-dimensional parametric systems and related components.The achieving of three-dimensional parametric system makes designers can perform parametric design for models. All modifiable parameters that are present in the models can be used to modify, and generate a new model based on the new parameter values. Model library provides the functionality for model management to designers. They can add the models to the model library. Therefore, they can manage them easily. They can also use the model library to find existing models to use.
