Analysis On The Characteristics Of Reports In People’s Daily Overseas Edition2012London Olympic Special

During the London2012Olympics period, the "Sports World" of People’s DailyOverseas Edition on every Wednesday and Friday, had been turned into daily"Olympic Special". Through elaborately planning,“Olympic Special” provided acomprehensive coverage of the Olympic Games reports, and had been reviewedfavourably by overseas Chinese for its richness in content and amiability in style.Based on "Pseudo-Environment" theory of Communication and Ethnic Grouptheory of Sociology, this paper mainly used documentation method, case study, andinvestigation method to analyse the report characteristic of “Olympic Special”People’s Daily Overseas Edition. The page numbers, picture usage, theme and stylesin the reports of "Olympic special" amoung July27to August13,2012were analyzed.According to the data and analysis results, this paper summarizes the characteristicsof the reports, as follows: people oriented, paying attention to "audience"; diversity ofreport topics, avoiding excessive publicity; giving priority to the positive report,caring about public opinion; diversity of layout design, prominent picture usage,strengthen the visual impact. Instead of the traditional reporting type, People’s DailyOverseas Edition shows another warmness face, enhancing the communication effects,especially showing China’s mainstream media to overseas audiences, established ourcountry’s positive image.The study also find some problems in the external report, and somecorresponding suggestions are advanced. Under the background of globalization,China is playing an increasingly important role. This paper argues that, in order topromote the external communication effect of the mainstream media in our country,we must satisfy the requirements of overseas readers, combine localization andinternationalization, pay attention to the influence of traditional culture, and thenimprove our country’s cultural identity.
