The People’s Daily (overseas edition)is the main front of our country’s foreign reports, which takes the overseas Chinese as the major reader. The issue of Taiwan is the sensitive one of our country. It is in relation to the fundamental profits of our country and is taken seriously by the Chinese all over the world. In the history, the Chinese and overseas Chinese have made a contribution to defend state sovereignty and safety and promote the intercostals development, the research for how to report the Taiwan issue is a very significant task. This paper uses the method of content analysis and discourse analysis, takes the People’s Daily overseas edition of Taiwan as the research object and analyses the overseas edition how to report the Taiwan question from May20,2008to May20,2011. This paper finds out that the reports of Taiwan question holds a very important position in the overseas edition; this paper always sticks to the position of the Party in the process of reports and follows the propagation law of the news. It reports the news in an objective way and presents a tendency of full coverage report. The comment manuscripts written by the various sectors of Taiwan became a rare material. In general, the overseas edition has large amount of information and the reporters have impressive skills in collecting the materials. But it is affected obviously by the cross-straits political factors. It also has the situation of speechless and weak in effectiveness on reporting Taiwan issues in the "special period" in the process of communication. The whole report is insufficient to overseas audiences. Also, its reports are lack of the cultural aspects and have imbalance in the social communication.
