Background:With the rapid development of medical science and people’s increasing demand for health, nursing specialty areas of expertise presents the development trend. In order to achieve the development of specialist care, the primary task is to develop a strong group of specialist nurses who are competent in clinical work. ICU is a treatment place gathering the critically ill patients, ICU nurse’s research capacity affects the level of ICU care, how to improve their research capacity is worthy of nursing managers study. Objectives:To describe the status and factors of the ICU nurses’ of research capacity, provide the basis for formulating the appropriate strategies to improve ICU nurses scientific capabilities. Methods:A questionnaire survey research method was used, investigating the research capacity of ICU nurses. The respondents were the trainee who participated in the eleventh Chinese Nursing Association critically ill nurse training course. The Questionnaire included:general information questionnaire of nurses, paramedics research capacity self-rating scale, Chinese nurses Stressor Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory. After the data collated, SPSS17.0software was used for statistical analysis. Results:1.The distribution scores of research capacity of nurses surveyed was between5to113points, the average score is39.82±21.47,56.9percent of nurses’ research capacity was at the low level,39.8percent at the middle level,3.3percent at a high level.2.The research capacity total score and dimensions differences in different ages, ICU work experience and nursing job had no statistical significance (p>0.05). A significant difference existed in problem finding capabilities, literature inspection capabilities, thesis writing ability (p<0.05; p<0.05; p<0.01). The research capacity total score difference in different basic qualifications ICU nurses had statistical significance (p<0.01); A significant difference lay in the literature search capabilities, research and design capability, research practical ability, information processing capabilities, essay writing ability (all p<0.05). The research capacity total score difference in ICU nurses in the highest degree difference had statistical significance (p <0.01); A significant difference lay in the literature search capabilities, scientific research and design capabilities, data processing capability (p<0.01; p<0.05; p<0.05). The research capacity total score difference in Contractual relationship had statistical significance (F=1.043, p<0.05); In the area of problem finding capabilities, literature search capabilities, research and design capability there were significant differences (p<0.05); In the area of research practical ability, essay writing ability, there were significant differences (p<0.01). Problem finding capabilities affected by participating in research or not had significant difference (p<0.05); A significant difference existed in the literature search capabilities, research and design capability, research practical ability, information processing capabilities, essay writing ability (p <0.01).3.Working pressure source and research capacity score, literature search capabilities, research and design capability, research practical ability, information processing capacity showed a significant negative correlation, correlation coefficients were-0.183,-0.161,-0.169,-0.181,-0.166(p<0.05). 4.Research capacity and job burnout, job satisfaction decreased showed a significant negative correlation, the correlation coefficients were-0.206,-0.196(p<0.01). Research capacity and emotional exhaustion showed a significant negative correlation, the correlation coefficient was-0.184(p<0.05).5.Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that ICU nurse specialist research capacity factors were:participating in scientific research, highest degree, contractual relations, basic education, and these explained24.2%of the variance in research capacity. The scores of nursing profession and work in working pressure explained1.8%of the variance. The scores of job satisfaction decreased and emotional exhaustion in job burnout explained2.6%of variance in research capacity.Conclusion:1.The research capacity of ICU nurses is in low level, suggesting the need to further strengthen the scientific research ability of such populations.2.ICU nurses’ research capacity related to many factors, including:participating in scientific research, highest degree, contractual relations, basic education, nursing profession and work (a dimension of working pressure source), emotional exhaustion, job satisfaction decreased.
