[Background] Nursing scientific research plays an important role in the nursing field, directly or indirectly, to guide clinical nursing practice. In recent years, with the development of domestic and international academic exchanges, the higher nursing education and the continuous improvement of the level of nursing scientific research had been greatly improved in China. However, late beginning nursing research, research understaffed, weak research awareness, insufficient management system, inadequate funding, lack of authoritative academic research results make it hard to progress in nursing scientific research, and difficult to use in daily clinic work.[Objective] The current study was designed to investigate the present status of nursing scientific research capacity and some related factors of nurses in two affiliated hospitals of Shandong University, and provide valuable information for clinical nursing practice and management.[Methods] Some questionnaires were designed and used to investigate the nursing scientific research status of 432 nursing professionals in two affiliated hospitals of Shandong University. The questionnaires included nursing staff general status questionnaire, nurse scientific research ability questionnaire, which contained the manipulative skills of statistical software, statistical analysis knowledge, researching knowledge and scientific paper writing knowledge. SPSS 13.0 statistical package was used for statistical analysis.[Results] 1. The scores of nursing scientific research capacity ranged from 25 to 93, the average score of the nursing scientific research capacity of the nurses was 55.8±21.1, medium level was 35.75%, and only 13.06% at a high level. The score of every ranged from the higher to the lower was writing knowledge, basic scientific researching knowledge, statistical analysis knowledge, and the manipulative skills of statistical software.2. The objective impact factors of nursing scientific research capacity were as follows, level of nursing education, the professional title, the degree of support, learning and training opportunities, scientific research time. Age, working time, and marriage status had no significant impact on scientific research level.[Conclusions] The nursing scientific research capacity in two affiliated hospitals of Shandong university was at a vary differences, most of them at a relative lower levels. Among the four scientific research capability, the nursing skills of statistical software and statistical knowledge was relative weaker compared to the other two aspects, needs to be strengthened. The main impact factors of nursing scientific research capacity were as followed by levels of education, professional title, the degree of support, learning and training opportunities, and scientific research time. The results provide valuable information to the nursing management for the nursing staff to enhance their scientific research capability.
