Objectives:To investigate the current situation of psychological contract and job burnout of nursesat the III-A-grade hospitals in Hengyang city and its potential influent factors, and toanalyze the relationships between them. To explore how to reduce the nurses’ job burnoutby making use of psychological contract, so it may help nurses improving a positiveworking attitude and the level of job performance.Methods:Six hundreds nurses, who worked over1year in2III-A-grade hospitals in Hengyangcity of Hunan province, were selected by cluster sample method. They were asked to answera questionnaire that included three parts,they are Demographic data Questionnaire,Psychological Contract Questionnaire and Job Burnout Questionnaire. There were515effective questionnaires were recovered. Data was recorded by two researcher and analyzedby SPSS18.0statistical software. Statistical methods included applying general statisticaldescription, one-way ANOVA, one sample t-test, LSD-t test, correlation analysis andmultiple linear regression analysis.Results:1.The score of psychological contract of nurses was2.43±0.38. The score of hospitalresponsibility of nurses(2.98±0.39)was higher than that of nurses’ responsibility(1.78±0.53),and this difference shows statistical significance(P<0.01). In the various dimensions ofpsychological contract, the highest score was hospital development responsibility(3.04±0.26), the lowest score was nurses’ reality responsibility(1.53±0.55).2.The score of job burnout of nurses was2.80±0.55;in the three dimensions of job burnout,the highest score was emotional exhaustion (3.18±1.07), the following was the respectivelycynicism (3.03±1.03)and the personal accomplishment (1.78±0.92).3.There was a significant positive correlation between nurses’ psychological contract andjob burnout.4.Job burnout of nurses was influenced by work purposes, hospital’s team responsibility andnurse’s team responsibility; in the various dimensions, the emotional exhaustion of nurseswas influenced by marital status, hospital’s team responsibility and nurse’s teamresponsibility, the cynicism was influenced by work purposes,average monthly income, hospital’s reality responsibility and team responsibility,the personal accomplishment wasinfluenced by work purposes, shift scheduled, nurses’ team responsibility, realityresponsibility and development responsibility.Conclusions:1.The unfulfilling degree of hospital responsibility perceived by nurses was higher than thenurse obligations.2.The job burnout of nurses mainly displayed in emotional exhaustion and cynicism.3.There was a significant positive correlation between nurses’ psychological contract andjob burnout, higher unfulfilling degree of psychological contract of nurses, higher jobburnout.4.Work purposes, hospital’s team responsibility and nurse’s team responsibility ofpsychological contract had the most significant effect on the job burnout.
