Along with the transformation of perspectives toward urban development and theincreasing attention which was put on ecological environment preservation, the UrbanLand Intensive Usage(ULIU) has being strongly encouraged to practice by Chinesecities, in order to relieve pressures of urban expansion. The ULIU will be able tobring cities higher efficiency on urban development and overall benefits, however, negative impacts such as poor urban quality will also be occurred simply becauseconstructions were highly assembled in a certain area. To eliminate the above negativeeffects, issues within urban spaces where has higher density should be taken moreseriously; On the other hand, suitable strategies and approaches for high density urbanspace has the strong need to be refined. Open Floor Space in the Ground Levels ofConstruction(OFSGLC) has the potential to be an effective way for improving theurban quality of high density urban areas. It is going to be a convincing outcome that,to discover the above potentials from the architecture-urban design point of view andtry to convert it into a practical strategy for the urban development.Based on the existing situation of the present high density urban space of Chinesecites, this article set the argument which, the motivation, spatial form, influencefactors to the function, of the Open Floor Space in the Ground Levels of Construction, from both the perspective of architectural and urban design. Furthermore, designstrategies will be proposed in order to contribute to the solution of the negative impactwhich appears in the process of urban space intensive development, such as urbanfa ade disorder, lack of public space, deterioration of ecological environment.According to the above process, the tension between constructions and public urbanspace will be relieved, systematic and integrated public open space will be generated,a well developed design strategy focused on high density urban space will beavailable.Conclusion1:Four effects by the OFSGLC in the high density urban area to its surrounding urbanspace can be concluded: Stitching Line, Banding Extension, Area Buffering and AreaRadiation. Each of the modes emphasizes on different effect in term of interaction ofthe urban fa ade, organization of internal and outside flows, ecological environmentoptimization. Various combinations of the modes will be chose as the goal of designbased on the design facts such as the situation of the surrounding area; relevant designstrategies should be implemented at the same time.2: The layout of the OFSGLC should be in view of the urban design perspective;design process should be kept to the ‘overall control’ principle, closely cooperate withthe essential elements of the urban fabric of the site, in order to integrate the newurban space into the existing surrounding organically. 3: As the intermediary and connection of the architecture and the urban space, theconstruction of the OFSGLC should take the differentiation in between of them intoconsideration; treat it as a positive design element of which catalysis effect can beused. In practice, design will be focused on the organic integration of theinterior-outside space of architecture and the urban environment elements, forachieving the goal of coexistence.4: Based on the function complexity and diversity of the high density urban space, thespatial organization of the OFSGLC should place the mixed-use of the construction atfirst to activate energies within spaces; the specific design measures could generate‘agglomeration effect’ to improve the overall efficiency of a certain space, which canbe realized by introducing interaction/compatibility/complementation oftiming/intensive organization of function between different functions of the building;when there is a limitation on the site area, or the function requirement is toocomplicate to be handled, the OFSGLC could be overlaid its level vertically, to fitfunctions into the vertical space intensively, which is a reflect of applicability of theOFSGLC in a high density environment.5: When the OFSGLC comes down to details, openness and sharing should be wellperformed within24hours; Human scales and social life facilities should be providedin order to encourage the interaction of users yet boost the urban quality and itsirradiation loop to the neighborhoods.6: The approaches of dealing with the fa ade and facilities of the OFSGLC shouldfocus more on the details especially on a human scale, maximum the expression bycarefully taken the detail, for improving spatial quality and remodeling the ahumanized urban space.
