Since entering this century, with the rapid development of emerging economies and the growing population, urbanization has become an inevitable requirement in the process of industrialization and modernization of a country or region. For China and the overwhelming majority of high-density Asian countries, considering the two constraints of population density and suitable land for habitation, there is no choice but to accept the shrinking urban space and development model. The tightening of cities will inevitably lead to the formation of high-density areas in central urban areas or parts of cities. In some areas, extreme high-density phenomena may even form.High-density urban environments have become an unavoidable living environment. In high-density urban environments,high-rise buildings have increased many building spaces for people on limited land use,and urban spaces and functions have also become rich and dense. However, with the consequent decrease in urban public space, the pressure on urban transportation has increased. The existing problems such as the lack of open space, the increase of the heat island effect, and the declining quality of human settlements have become more prominent.Architects can no longer cope with the challenges posed by high density by traditional methods.High-density high-rise buildings need more space design.Exploring and breaking through to address the space and livability issues in high-rise,high-density buildings, how to get more scope for human activities and better comfort in a limited space has become an important issue for architecture.Faced with the phenomena and problems in high-density urban environments, under the conditions of limited urban land use and horizontal expansion, this paper introduces the “secondary ground” construction space compensation method in high-rise buildings by copying the ground space.Reconstruct the public space in the vertical direction of high-rise buildings, provide open spaces for buildings and cities in the air, compensate for the lack of open spaces for cities and buildings in high-density urban environments, and create space for people with ground environmental characteristics and quality at the same time.,improve the ecological environment. This article then selects Singapore, which is a city with similar climate in many cities of our country. At the same time,it is a representative high-density urban environment. It only used 20 years to create a variety of “secondary grounds” and improved the urban high-density conditions in Singapore. It has created a livable ecological environment and has made outstanding demonstrations around the world.First of all, four key practices in Singapore's high-rise buildings are used as a case study object to analyze the specific application of the “secondary ground” in dealing with many problems in the urban high-density environment.Based on these four key research cases and combining with other practical cases in Singapore, the “secondary ground” space of Singapore's high-rise buildings was analyzed and summed up.Finally,Singapore's high-level “secondary ground” design strategy was refined. Finally,it summarizes the existing deficiencies of Singapore's high-level “secondary ground” and proposes inspiration and suggestions for the design of high-rise buildings in high-density urban areas in China to improve the planning and construction of urban public space systems in China. Finally, the “secondary ground” for future high-rise buildings will be proposed."Summary and outlook of development trends.
