Phased-array radar has significant effects on military aspects and civilian aspects. With the development of array face system, the number of phase shifter units is growing bigger, the space is becoming smaller, the structure is getting more and more complicated and so on, these characteristics mentioned above require high calculation speed, structure miniaturization, accurate data compensation and rich additional control functions for beam steering system.This paper first introduces the research status of beam steering system at home and abroad, and then analyzes the basic functions and the primary implementations, next based on FPGA, puts forward the hardware and software design schemes of beam steering system for phased-array radar, finally combined with the requirements of engineering task, chooses the main chip of FPGA and peripheral devices, meanwhile, finishes writing, simulation and testing of software codes in Verilog HDL programming language.Based on the study of beam steering technology for phased-array radar, this paper realizes the modularity and multifunction of beam steering subsystem, in addition, this technology can be widely used in the research of other control subsystems for radar and industry control fields to improve social economic benefits, to promote the sustainable developments of electronic informatization and digitization.
