A Study Of University Library Virtual Reference Service Based On Wiki

University library virtual reference service continuously innovate in the times ofWeb2.0, a university library virtual reference service system based on wiki realizeinteraction between librarians and users and between users and users. There are alarge number of experts while ordinary users thirst for knowledge in the livingenvironment of the university library, the wiki can set up a bridge of knowledgecommunication. This paper establishes basic service framework based on the researchof university library virtual reference service and wiki. This system utilizes theadvantages of Wiki to help saving knowledge, accumulating knowledge, studyingknowledge and producing knowledge, it is a succession, extension and newdevelopment of reference service in web environment, and provides sharing,convenient, rapid, efficient, cooperative knowledge platform service.This paper discusses some important issues associated with establishing auniversity library virtual reference service system based on wiki from both theory andpractice. Theoretically, the paper looks at the origin, concepts, specialty of bothuniversity library virtual reference service and Wiki and the service model which isWiki combine with university library virtual reference service. Practically, the systemframe, elements which keep the system effectively and research the practicalapplication.Firstly, the paper summarizes virtual reference service in China and abroad. Andintroduce the development trend of virtual reference service. It based on origin andconcepts, expounds the meanings and specialties, and analysis the model ofcombining Wiki with virtual reference service.From above research, establish a university library virtual reference servicesystem based on wiki, it builds a framework of five levels, and the six key elementsare discussed. Finally, this paper analysis the examples from Xiamen University, TongjiUniversity and academic encyclopedia website and put into operation, introduce theapplication from practical point of view.
