Digital reference services an extension of the traditional reference service in university libraries of Anhui provice; it is the combination of advanced network technology and reference service. At the present, it provides the service through E-mail, forms, Web, text messages, phone and online chat, etc. It offers convenient, fast, and even deeper consulting services. Under the current online environment, users need more and more information. They will use the network platform as an efficient way to do the information retrieval. But keep in mind, there still have some inevitable problems, like disorganized and out-of-order. Therefore, digital reference service as one of the most important research area in university library service. Developed countries (such as the United States) provide high qualified service. Research works focus on these counties service would provide significant guidance for the university in Anhui Province.Library service in Anhui province is relative low through whole China. In most universities, they still provide traditional reference service like face-to-face and telephone counseling. In recent years, digital reference service just start up and plays more and more significant role in research area.Digital reference service is considered to be the core of library service in the future business.This article uses the literature investigation, site survey; telephone consultation, questionnaire and on-the-spot investigation analysis the university library digital reference service in Anhui province. The full text is divided into seven chapters, the first two chapters discuss the basic theory of digital reference service; the third and fourth chapter mainly focus on field research, from the practice of digital reference service research in institutions of higher education. Fifth, six chapters describe the existing problems in Anhui province and then provide some recommendations.● The first chapter discusses the source of this paper, the research purpose and significant roles of digital reference service.● Second chapter discusses the meaning of digital reference service, characteristics and development trend.
