In today’s information age of web2.0, the judicial system can not be fully completed in ashort period of time, and it is prevalent for judges not to conduct trials independently in thejudicial practice because they are influenced and controlled by various factors. In addition tothe media practitioners need to have legal knowledge, the judge also urgently needs to havethe media literacy, rather than blindly lead by media, then blame them for "media trial".In recent years, the Liu Yong case, the Zhang Jinzhu case, and the Xu Ting case havecaptured the national attention,reflecting the complementary and restricted relationshipbetween judges and journalists.This desperately requests judges and other legal practitionersto establish the consciousness of media literacy, so that they are not in a passive position inthe trials, and achieve independent trial eventually.Some scholars pointed out:" the judges should not be interfered by any otheradministrative organizations, social group or individuals,even the court’s.So is the media’sinterference.The court’s trial,is not supposed to be interfered by the superior court,as well asby the media. But Chinese judicial organizations are easily affected by the social publicopinion,which does not mean that our news media is more influential than the ones of othernational media,but it shows that China’s judge lack the independent status and mind."In the information age, there is an urgent need for judges to improve the media literacy.Whether the news report or the netizen, both of them have large or small effect on the judge.The aim of this article is to help judge to find a way for promoting media literacy, and put anend to " media trial"," expert judgment" and "folk trial".This article starts from the the original connotation of the media literacy, trying to find outthe theoretical basis of the judges’ urgent need of media literacy through the analysis of therole of judges in the information age. This paper will focus on the characteristics andproblems of the judges’ media literacy, and learn from some foreign law and famous cases,attempting to gain a few inspiration, eventually find out some solutions to promoting judgesmedia literacy.
