China is a important country of coal supply in the world, but the coal mine safetyaccidents occur frequently which often cause serious personal injury accident, constrainthe healthy development of the coal enterprise and the coal industry in China. Increasethe safety equipments inputs can reduce the related accidents. The power distributionnetwork of coal mine is the main power of coal industry, whether the power distributionnetwork can be safely operation will play a crucial role in coal mine safety production.Because of the particularity of working environment of coal mine, coal powerdistribution network sufferes the severe testing. We invent a system called coal minehigh voltage grid failture points postioning system which is suitable for the situation ofthe mine. The wireless sensor network introduced in this paper is part of the system.The line’s number is large and they are long, thus they form a relatively complexunderground power supply system, and the short circuit faults and phase-to-groundfaults occur frequently. In order to ensure stable power supply, to judge fault lines fastlyand to determine the fault location become the main task of the protection of the powersupply system, and the current method of distributed lines in our coal mines of faultlocation is mainly still relies on artificial. This method not only spends a lot of manpower and material resources and extends the blackout time, reduces the power supplyreliability.This paper studies a wireless sensor network system which is suitable for theunderground coal mine. Wireless sensor nodes are fixed on the cable of undergroundsubstation, once a cable fails, the node can send the fault information to the base stationof the substation, the base station then transfer the information to the groundmonitoring master station. The master station which integrated the configurationsoftware、high speed data acquisition device can realize the power grid failure monitoring, alarm and positioning function by combined with the wireless sensornetwork for fault information collection. Firstly, this paper analyses the current faultlocation technology at home and abroad and the current development situation ofwireless sensor network technology, the wireless sensor network structure and theagreement is also analyzed. Considering the characteristics of the coal mine, weselected the protocol of ZigBee which is a short and low rate communicationtechnology. At last, the paper introduces the design of the software and hardware ofwireless sensor network, realizes the transmission of line fault informations collected,and effectively transmites to intelligent monitoring master station, lay the foundation toensure the realization of the positoning system.
