In recent years, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) including industry associationshas been booming in China. With the development of the economy and society, industryassociations play a more and more important role in the society, especially in the enterprisefield. Our government claims "small government and large society ". It means weakening thefunctions of the government, and increasing the functions of the society. The system ofmanagement transforms increasingly from the department management to industrymanagement, so the role of industry associations will become more prominent. In the libraryindustry, in the early years of Chinese libraries spring up, Library Association of China hasbeen established. The establishment of this important organization signs the library industryturned from Spontaneity to self-discipline. It is a progress of the Times. China is still not anational library association today, so the existence of Library Association of China appearsmore precious.Library Association of China was established in1925. It is China’s first national modernlibrary professional academic groups, but the big event in the history of modern Chineseculture and library enterprise has been forgetted, not given proper attention. Based on widelycollected materials, firstly, the paper analysis the reasons of the establishment of LibraryAssociation of China, secondly it introduces the basic situation of Library Association ofChina. Then it hackles research activities during the existence. Finally, the paper makesevaluations, including the historical merit. Besides, it points out the limitation, in order toavail the construction and development of the library association/institute today.
