In recent decades, with the rapid growth of car ownership, traffic congestion, traffic accidents andother problems’ frequent occur, effective monitoring and management for motor vehicle becomes moreimportant than before. In addition, superior vehicle safety and better comfort performance are also rising,the traditional traffic information service can not meet the requirements. For the above reasons peopleworking on intelligent transportation systems and take some operations like weather monitoring in realtime and dispatching which could insure traffic safety and improve the efficiency of transportation.Based on the current situation and prospects of car navigation systems’ development, the proposedprogram takes use of the Intel Atom processor, an Atom-510platform and embedded Ubuntu operatingsystem as mainly units. The article is mainly to discuss in detail from both hardware and softwaredesign.In the hardware, for the high demand of the central processor performance, take newgeneration Atom510embedded systems as the main control unit. According to functionalrequirements, some units such as the GPS module interface circuit, GPRS module interfacecircuit and reversing the monitoring modulation would be added, then discuss theimplementation of each module circuit.In the software, take embedded Ubuntu operating system as software design platform,and use the QT/Embedded to realize each display function.The application results show that the system is stable and reliable, feature-rich, easy tooperate, and man-machine interface is friendly, easy to extend.
