In recent years, the economic of China develops rapid. With the improvement of national income, the amount of private cars and public vehicles increased greatly, which actively promotes the development of the automotive industry. At the same time, vehicle monitoring terminal. vehicle navigate system and the multimedia in cars are also wildly promoted and developed. A wide variety of vehicle monitoring terminals are produced.This article is intended to show the design of a stable and safe real time vehicle monitoring terminal. Considering the designing requirements, we choose the high cost-effective units in hardware designing, like the dual mode GPS/BD2(Global Positioning System/Beidou-2) module, communication module, microcontroller chip and the external components. FreeRTOS system is transplanted in the device in order to control the location module and communication module. The received location information are analyzed and packaged by microcontroller, then transported by GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) system. Combining the location information and the geographic information, the monitoring platform can displays and records the real-time driving trajectory in electronic maps.The processor of the design in this paper is one microcontroller, which is in low price, when combined with the FreeRTOS operating system it can meets the requirement of the system response speed. In some place, the location signal will shield by trees or buildings, than the navigation devices can’t work well. The vehicle traveling information is recorded in order to improve the location accuracy.The vehicle monitoring terminal designed in this paper is in low production costs. The terminal can running stable without the GPS navigation system, it is suitable for the monitoring and management of vehicles in large number in china. The terminal has promotional value in many vehicle application areas, including the management of taxi system, car rental system, public transports system, official vehicles and so on.
