As the development of China's economic construction, traffic demand is growing. Atpresent, the contradiction between traffic demand and supply is very conspicuous. Roadconstruction can not keep up with vehicles and traffic growth. Vehicle operation management isnot efficient and communication facilities are primitive. Many communication facilities providerelatively simple features and services and their interfaces are not friendly enough. In addition,the monitoring personnel can not clearly determine the on-site status of the vehicle, so they cannot schedule the vehicle operation scientifically and rationally. All of these reasons increase thedifficulty of vehicle management, making the multifunction vehicle terminal research become animportant part of traffic information construction.Using advanced information and communication technologies to provide vehiclepositioning and monitoring, computer-aided scheduling and other traffic information serviceswill become the development trend of future transportation. Currently, audio play, positioning,speed limit, safety warning and other functions integrated vehicle device is being developed. Thevehicle terminal has become a research hotspot.This thesis is mostly about the hardware and software research and design of embeddedvehicle terminal. Referring to the current key technologies of vehicle terminal application, anoverview of Global Positioning System, GSM and GPRS mobile communication technologies isgiven and a whole solution of embedded vehicle terminal is proposed. The designed vehicleterminal uses ARM embedded processor as hardware platform, integrating GPS positioning,audio play, liquid crystal display, wireless communication and other functional modules. Afterloading the designed device drivers for liquid crystal display and keys, the operating systemresources are used to achieve the applications of play-list setting, GPS data processing, shortmessage and web communication on the uClinux software platform. The terminal can playhigh-quality audio files, combined with liquid crystal display and infrared remote control whichmake the operation more convenient. By the use of positioning technology and mobilecommunication technology, it can communicate with the monitoring center in real-time.Information about vehicle status is transmitted to the monitoring center and feedback is received afterward.This thesis provides a practical vehicle terminal design with real-time monitoring features.The terminal can not only play an important role in intelligent transportation system, but alsoprovide vehicle tracking, bus stop reporting, logistics vehicle scheduling and many otherservices.
