Shipbuilding industry is a modern comprehensive industry which provides technicalequipment for water transport, maritime development and national defense construction, andwith a strong leading role to iron and steel, chemical, equipment manufacturing, electronicinformation and other key industries, is called the highest integrated industrial. On thewhole China’s shipbuilding industry has showed the momentum by leaps and bounds, andits international status is rapidly enhanced. But compared to Europe and America, Japan andSouth Korea or other shipbuilding countries or regions, China’s shipbuilding industry haslots of problems which are low degree of information sharing, difficult informationcollection, slow feedback, lack of uniform standards for data, low productivity. This articlestudied the key issues of the effective management in shipbuilding industry informationconstruction, and tried to make an effective solution.In this paper, the studying subject is the shipbuilding design information. By thestudying of masses of relative papers and the sufficient researching of DC metadata,the plan for information sharing of shipbuilding design based on DC metadata wasbuilt. At the same time, for improving the efficiency of design and production, theplan which using modularization and operator tools to realize the large vessels design was built, too. The contents and characteristic of shipbuilding design information,standard of DC metadata and the markup scheme based on RDF/XML was deeplyanalysised, the structure of metadata system for shipbuilding design information wasstudied.The structure of metadata system for shipbuilding design information was a researchfocus in this paper. By deeply analyzing the existing flaws of the infomationization ofshipbuilding industry, linking up the characteristic and the successful application in booksand information with the characteristic of RDF/XML, the structure of metadata system forshipbuilding design information based on RDF/XML was built, the shipbuilding designinformation was on multi-dimensional, index, integrated description. Furthermore, based onthis structure, took the shipbuilding design information for example, the platform is theWindows XP system, the development environment for data integration is VC++, thebackground data management system is SQL SERVER2000. The navigation system ofshipbuilding design information was designed, the rapid retrieving, management andmaintenance of shipbuilding design information was realized. Finally, the insufficiency of the study in this paper was concluded, the further study forthe contents of shipbuilding industry infomationization was envisaged.
