For the last decade or more years, enterprises have invested a tremendous amount of money in information technology, developed and purchased a variety of information management systems. However, these systems, which are not often interoperable and able to communicate, result in the phenomenon of isolated information resource, so-called information island. The need of Enterprise Application Integration for the corporation is more and more urgently. The data integration becomes a study hotspot of this industry. In the field of warehouse and business intelligence, the effective integration and management of metadata is the foundation of building interoperable databases, tools, and applications. With the comprehensive analysis of the requirement of all current information systems integration and consideration of essential elements of a metadata management strategy and sound research of some metadata management solutions in existence, our research group proposed a warehouse metadata management solution (WMMS).After analyzing several typical techniques relevant to the information retrieval field, this paper, combined with our research group acting targets, proposes the idea of keyword-based search on structured information in WMMS.At first, our research group design and implement a relatively low-cost CWM MetaStore. Then the paper focuses on the design and implementation of the metadata inquiring and retrieval component of WMMS (MDRETRIEVAL). MDRETRIEVAL allows a user to characterize his needs by keywords. The paper presents its design method and architecture, explains its work process in detail. Finally, based on the evaluation methods and measures of traditional information retrieval, the performance and effectiveness of MDRETRIEVAL was experimentally evaluated. The results show that MDRETRIEVAL and its buiding method are effective, and provide references for further improving the system.
