Research And Application Of Metadata Repository Of EGovernment Information Resources

The most common definition of metadata is "data about data". A more helpful definition is that it is structured information about a resource. It can be used to describe, explain, locates, or otherwise makes it easier to retrieve, use, or manage an information resource. The thesis employs the content and organization of eGovernment metadata, to design and develop a metadata storage and management system, which makes the co-understanding, cooperation and exchange of eGovernment possible.Nowadays, due to the great amount of different distributed information system in the eGovernment, the "Information Island" currently underway to the application of eGovernment, and it has become the bottleneck of realizing the rapid development of the field. The purpose of this thesis is to put the metadata theory into the eGovernment field. We apply it from the extraction of the information resources in the department to constitute the metadata database that is the base of the register and catalogue service. The basic idea of this thesis is based on the concept that "metadata is data about data". Through search the common characters from different information, constitute the describe method and rule of the eGovernment information resource.The author of this thesis first analyzes the current information discovery techniques, and sums up their advantages and the disadvantages. Then we bring forward the information register and catalogue service system based on metadata. This system not only has the advantages of the catalogue, but also makes it easier tomanage the eGovernment information resources.The standard description of the information resources is the key of management and exchange. This thesis gives the techniques of the information collection and standardization. The metadata management must be performed according to its characteristics and the application's needs. The thesis gives a total frame for the metadata management system after introduced the storage strategy and index strategy. In view of the preliminary study and prototype, the flat file system and the relational database is adapted to build a eGovernment metadata database. The thesis explains the technology of realizing the original system, depicts an experimental method of information resources register and catalogue service.The meaning of this thesis is that it introduces the concept, theory and method of metadata into the field of eGovernment. Through designing and constructing the metadata database model, and the original system of the eGovernment information resources metadata management, it sets a good example to the application of metadata in this field.
