Research Of Metadata Schema Applying To Information System

By Apr.2004, the Web had more than 3.1 billion public pages in China. Despite the popularity of the Web, many concerns exist regarding the discovery, organization, retrieval, and information in this new digital universe. Internet resource discovery tools are readily available, however, users have difficulty selecting relevant resources. In part this is due to the lack of a standard for representation of Internet resources. An emerging solution is metadata.Because of the difference of operation systems, protocols, application software, databases, it is difficult to realize the share and exchange of information resource. The interoperability is a focus. The basis of metadata schema is to solve the interoperability.At first, the thesis investigates the Status Quo and important projects of Metadata in China and abroad, then introduces the basic theory of metadata and discusses the methodology of developing a metadata schema in domestic and abroad, designs a metadata schema for China Cultural Celebrities' Manuscript Library in Shanghai Library finally.There are 5 chapters, over 35,000 words, 14 diagrams and 56 pieces of references in this thesis.
