On the first day of2010, the largest free trade area among developing countries, China-ASEAN free trade area was officially started. Our country’s deep operation and communication with Indonesia, the country which is leading ASEAN in terms of territory, population, economics strength, is becoming a must. In order to grasp the relationship between the two countries and achieve the permanent and peaceful development, realizing the "me" in the eyes of Indonesia makes an important step. That pushes the research of China’s national image in Indonesia in the front of practice. The image of the state is defined as "the sum of the sharing of events and experience", which comes from the "news framework" and "pseudo environment" media providing to us. As a result, investigation of China’s national image in those Indonesian Chinese newspapers which are facing the Chinese Indonesian directly can not only help us see clearly the "me", but also help us comprehend Indonesia’s attitude and policy to China.Based on the theory of global communication, with the aid of various communication research methods, this dissertation is firstly use the documentary research method to comb the complex history of politics and Chinese news in Indonesia, pointing out the changes of China’s national image in the changing molds of power. Secondly, use content analysis and case analysis to study the emerging, commercially mature and politically indifferent newspaper, SIN CHEW DAILY-HARIAN INDONESIA, from2006to2011. With the China related reports in these5years, draw the picture of China’s national image in all and in evert respect like politics, hard power and soft power, and resolve the presence and changes of the very subject. Finally, try to insert "smart power" philosophy into the overseas Chinese media economy, for the purpose of improving our national image in the overseas environment.
