China’s National Image Study Of Chinese-language Newspaper In Germany

Since the reform and opening up, with the rapid take-off of China’s economy,China plays a more and more important role in the international arena.This is essentialfor the long-term development of Chinese future, because a good image of thecountry will help to win the support and trust of all countries, resulting in moreopportunities for cooperation and development. The unique advantages of overseasChinese media plays a vital role in international communication for propaganda andshaping China’s national image. This paper takes Europe’s most influential Chinesemedia "European Times" German edition as an example, collecting678reportsrelated to China among the53issue of the newspaper from September27,2013afterthe launch to September26,2014years for the research content, Summarizingdifferent aspects of their presentation of China’s national image, seeks to restore thecountry’s image objectively overseas Chinese media presented.This thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter introduces theresearch motivation and significance of this thesis, and also introduces the historicaldevelopment and present situation of the "European Times" and the German Chinesenewspaper."European Times" published in1983, now it has developed to become Europe’smost influential and powerful Chinese newspapers and Chinese press and publishingorganizations, circulation covering the whole of Europe. It also has a large numberof readers. The contents of their report is very extensive. At the insistence ofobjectivity, neutrality of the premise,"European Times" can make a profound andtimely, comprehensive analysis for major news events. The report genre is moreflexible, diverse. As the authority of the overseas Chinese newspaper,“EuropeanTimes" provides a good platform for European Chinese, overseas Chinese, Europeanlocal society to get the knowledge and understanding of China.In the first chapter,this paper also defines the concept of the "national image".Combined with previous scholars have elaborated on the "national image" concept, the author thinks that the image of the country consists of two parts: namely"country’s soft power, hard power”, including the political, economic, cultural,military, diplomatic, and other aspects. In addition, because there are great differencesin the external and internal dissemination of the spread, the distinction of "nationalimage" also should be the domestic image and international image. This paperstudies the "national image" belongs to the Chinese international image.In the second chapter, taking the "European Times" German edition as anexample, the author makes a quantitative analysis report from the number, subjectdistribution, sources of news, news genre, to the tendentiousness of news, etc,combines with the news content, restores each topic news related to China`s “nationalimage”, sums up the characteristics of the subject of China`s "national image".In the third chapter, the author concludes several enlightenments from "EuropeanTimes" the German version of China national image in the overseasdissemination.The third chapter is a summary of the contents of the first two chapters.In this chapter, the author confirms the role of "European Times’ German editionplayed in China’s national image of the external communication, points out theexisting deficiency, at the same time, the author puts forward some suggestions inorder to strengthen the overseas Chinese media to play a greater role in spreadingand Propaganda of China’s national image.This paper hopes that through the "European Times" German version of China’snational image analysis, to exhibit a relatively objective German Chinese newspaperin China’s national image. On the one hand, to arouse the domestic people tounderstand and pay more attention to the overseas Chinese media, on the other hand,expect that the overseas Chinese media can be used as connecting China and theworld the bridge and the link, transfer and spread more true and accurate reports aboutthe development in China, Let the world understand an objective, comprehensiveChina.
