Reading Survey And Analysis Of Urban Residents In Digital Era

Reading, which is an important activity to understand the world, is a fundamental way to accept education, develop intelligence and get information.the raise of sociocultural level and national competitive is also depend on the popularity and development of the social reading.People’s way of reading is constrained by social economic and cultural level which formed an adaptable reading manner. Each change of reading medium, such as from bones to inscribed bamboo-slips, from inscribed bamboo-slip to the paper, from hand-written to the engraving, from engraving to printing, from paper to e-books, have dramatically changed people’s reading manner. Reviewing the history of social civilization, a new reading style is a symbol of a new kind of civilization.With the high speed development of digitalizaion and computer technology,the increasing popularity of the Netizen,as well as the appearance of many e-text, the environment.content and medium of people’s reading have changed a lot, at the same time,people’s reading habits have changed accordingly.Therefore, it is significant to make a survey about the reading situation of urban resident. Firstly, this paper summed up the reading theory at home and abroad and pointed out the significance that reading level of urban residents act on urban development. secondly, in the way of making a survey of the citizen reading situation in Nanjing, the paper revealed the changes of people reading style in the digital age. At last, it made an empirical study.For the better understanding of our citizen reading condition from the citizen’s point of view, Following the scientific method of social investigation,strictly selecting sample, and programmed controlling the progress of collecting date,this article made an interview investigation and a questionnaire survey to964citizens and482families in the districts of Xuanwu,Baixia,Gulou,Jianye,Xiaguan,Qinhuai. Inorder to reflect more objective and multiside situation of urban citizen in this cybertime, the author made an adjustment to the survey method, the investigate subject as well as the analysis progress.Through an analysis of the collected data, we can get many conclusions, such as reading characteristics, the relation between reading and society, the impact to traditional reading coming from the emergence of new medium, the influences from reading to people’s mode of thinking and knowledge structure, the changes of reading activity as time going on. Basing on the theoretical analysis, the author proposes several points about how to start an national reading program:first, strengthen the leading role of the government.second, adhere to publishing beliefs and maintain the prosperity of reading market.third, hold the reading position and made the society reading to play a role. Promoting urban residents to read need all the effort from government, publishers and libraries. It needs the cooperation of the government, publishers and libraries to encourage citizens to read. According to our national conditions and changing enviornment, we should paly an active part in taking corresponding measures and enlarging reading populations to achieve the purpose of promoting citizens’reading level, building a knoeladge city and strenthening our national competity.
