Due to the continuous improvement of the radar performance, the design of radar systems increasingly tends to be complex and diversified, which requires more accurate debugging and testing of the radar. Radar echo simulator can realistically simulate echo signal of the radar in the actual work environment, without the constraints of weather conditions and experimental site, so the radar can effectively reduce the experiment expenditure and accelerate the process of the research and development of radar systems. In addition, radar echo simulator can also simulate some echo signal emerging in special scenes, which is rare in the real situation, and that makes the testing of the radar system more complete. Therefore, the radar echo simulator is an important equipment for the radar test.At present, most of the radar simulators achieve radar echo data simulation by combing the software and hardware. However, the current radar simulators generally have the problem of small amount of simulated target, poor real-time capability and few functions of simulated target, this dissertation will solve these problems, and design a multi-target radar simulator with good real-time performance.This dissertation is under the background of a project belongs to a research institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, the author’s main work as follows:1.After reading a lot of literature, according to the functional requirements and technical specifications of the project, the author deeply analyzes various design options and selects the optimal design and gives its realization process.2.Starting from the system functional requirements of the radar echo simulator, the author analyzes several commonly used radar signal waveform, then gives the statistical models commonly used in radar clutter data, and also describes the two basic methods-----ZMNL method and SIRP method in detail to produce the radar clutter, and applies ZMNL method and SIRP method to establish a mathematical model to generate the radar clutter data within regular pulse.3.Proceed from the whole system design, the author gives the realization scheme of computer software for radar simulator, uses Microsoft Visual C++6.0and the Microsoft Visual C#as the development platform, and applies mathematical model of the radar signals and clutter to generate the radar signal and radar clutter data. Besides, the author also achieves real-time processing and display of target data and echo waveform data, at last develops man-machine interface with good performance.4. When the debugging of the main control computer with a dedicated CPCI card is finished, the author uses the signal source, multi-channel oscilloscope and other general instruments to build up a radar system test platform, according to the test program, software test and all index tests are completed, and the results of the tests are analyzed. Finally, by using the radar simulator to test the performance of a radar, the performance stability and functional integrity of this radar simulator is strongly verified.
