Airborne radar simulator is a result of digital electronic and analog electronic technology which can generate radar echo signal to test the radar system carrying on airplane. As the function of modern radar system becomes more and more complex, it changes more and more difficult to debug the each part of radar. Therefore, developing radar simulator for airbore radar system seems more and more essential.Radar signal simulation is mainly used for producing radar echo which contains radar targets and enviroment information. Based on the special requirements of an airborne pulse radar signal processor, we mainly discussed the realization of video echo signal of the targets, clutter and noise, design of scheme for the whole simulation system, and the application of high-speed DSP and FPGA chip in radar simulator.The thesis introduces the state of the art for radar signal simulators in and aborad in recent years and the reason for their wildespread application firstly. Then, models for target echo, clutter signal and noise are established, and the the realization method in computer is given. Based on analysis of data size and coputing speed of the sepcial simulation system, double methods are put forward to produce radar vedio echo. The methods make use of the superiority of computer, high-speed digital signal processor (DSP) and field programmable logic array (FPGA) respectively. The process for generating radar vedio echo can be simply described as: the computer produces environment data off-line and transmits them to FLASH memories on the signal processing board; under the control of radar signal processor, DSP and FPGA realize superposition of target echo and environment signal; the radar vedio signal are outputted from the DAC module at the end.
