Radar echo simulator is a kind of signal generator used to debug the subsystems of radar signal reception and processing. Its main function is to produce radar echoes, clutters and noise. It's used for radar subsystems debugging when the microwave frontend is not available.Based on the excellent performance of DDS technology on bandwidth frequency switching speed, frequency modulation linearity, frequency resolution and stability, a scheme was put forward in this paper. PC is used to control the radar waveform parameters, design targets tracks and clutters, and DSP is used to control DDS chip, then simulator can generate the high frequency echoes we need. By changing the delay and frequency of the output waveform, it can simulate the echoes of targets on different distances and speed, which can be used to debug radar performance instead of actual targets. With our simulator five independent targets and land clutters can be simultaneously real-time simulated.
