Analysis On China Image Presented By Thailand Chinese Press

As a national intangible asset, national image has played an increasingly important role in enhancing the international status and promoting the world communication and cooperation in the international interactions for the fast-rising China. The long standing and well-established relationship between China and Thailand, the large number of Chinese in Thailand as well as an emerging market for learning Chinese create a favorable social environment for the vigorous development of Chinese newspaper in Thailand. As the status of Thailand Chinese press becomes stable in the Thailand media, more and more people also start to understand and accept the Chinese national image reported by them. Therefore, quantitative analysis of Chinese national image in Thailand Chinese press has an important practical significance in improving Chinese national image and promoting the various contacts between Thailand and China.Thus, in this thesis, I selected two newspapers,"Sing Sian Yer Pao Daily News" and "World Daily" as my study objects, which are the most representative Chinese press in Thailand. Using text analysis method and content analysis method, I comprehensively analyzed the overall quantity, the report content, the report genre, the news keynote, the reported keynote, the sources of information and report object from the quality and quantity standpoints in the A edition of these two newspapers in2011. Combining with the specific reports, I summarized the national image presented from the Chinese press in Thailand, including national polity, economy, diplomatism, society, military affairs, culture, etc. The characteristics, patterns and tendency of the Chinese national image were investigated. Combined with the history and current situation of the Thailand Chinese press, the factors influencing the construction of Chinese nation image and the revelation for international spread and image-building of country image were also discussed.
