In this paper, China’s national image that constructed by overseas Chinese media hasbeen studied. In particular, it refers to the China’s national image that reflected by the newsreport made by Chinese media beyond China (mainland and Hong Kong). The MainlandNews and Hong Kong Today forum of overseas Chinese print media Southern daily News areused as example in this paper, as well as the Site Face to Face TV show of SouthernInternational Television Station.There are quite many overseas Chinese medias present nowadays, and their developmenthave been correlated to the national power of China. In recent years, with the enhancement ofChinese national influences, the quantity of media institution has been booming. However,many Chinese medias are facing new crisis under the pressure of living in digitalcircumstance. In this paper, for the purpose of investigating the national image of China inoverseas Chinese media, the Southern Daily News and Souther international Television showof American Southern Newspaper and Television Media Group was discussed. The possiblereasons for the way that China image constructed was analysed. Based on our results, thestrategy that could be used to utilize the oversea Chinese media to construct a more positiveChina national image was proposed.This paper was based on the economic frame theory in principal. According toPurpose-Dependent Sampling strategy, a whole year’s news reports of Southern Daily Newswere set as the overall population. And year2011and year2012, the time that NortheastNormal University editing and publishing group joined in, were extracted as samples fordescriptive statistic, content analysis and typical case analysis. Moreover,10terms show wererandomly chosen from a year’s Site Face to Face, and its substances were also analysed.Through the above investigation, we have found that:1, the national image constructedby overseas chinese media is normally positive, this is the case where we encountered inpolitical, economical and cultural espects. While for social images, mostly were negative. Thesocial environment and medical circumstance were mostly accounted for.2, Chinese mainlandstudents who served as partner editors of the overseas Chinese newpaper were intend to usepositive and neutral reports, the basic idea is to construct a positive, developing and problemresolving image of China. For the reports that potentially has negative effect on society, theywill try to use authorized source, mostly of them came from the government’s source.3,Nowadays, a large amount of overseas Chinese medias are stuck in lack of staff, equipmentand funds. The term they made are much too monotonous and roughly presented in mosttimes. Overseas Chinese media is part of Chinese mainland media, and it is also the abstractnational image of China. Thus if only constatly improve the program fasinating extent could itincrease its influenty and credity, and further to improve the national image of China.
