In the modern information network, optical fiber communication occupy adominant position because of its unparalleled advantage in the transmission distanceand bandwidth. With the growing popularity of broadband access, the flourishing ofdata services,voice, video, images and other multimedia integrated business, theconvergence of three networks (telecommunication network, radio and televisionnetworks, the Internet), the optical module,which is used for O/E conversion andone important part of fiber optic communications equipment, has developed rapidlyin recent years. With the increasing of the optical module’ rate, it has emerged manyform of packages,such as1*9(9Pins),GBIC(Gigabit Interface converter),SFP(SmallForm-factor Pluggable),SFP,X2(X-wavelength Two ports), XFP(10Gigabit SmallForm Factor Pluggable)and so on. Among these package forms, XFP is a kind ofdata-agnostic and multi-rate optical transceiver module. Its application has nothingto do with the protocol. Besides, low-cost, miniaturization and hot pluggable alsomake XFP the most promising technologies of the10Gbps optical module.The construction, the principle, each part’s function and design of XFP opticaltransceiver module are introduced in detail first in this thesis. Secondly, according tothe key indicators, the overall design of the program, which includes hardwarecircuit design,the function of firmware, as well as the design of DDMI areproposed. The results of test are introduced.The main chip GN2010E which is from Gennum company and integrate theCDR, EML laser driver and Limiting amplifier are used to design XFP opticaltransceiver module in this thesis. EML laser is used for TOSA.APD is used forROSA, while ADuC7020is used for MCU. The module can test AOP and ER. It alsohas the DMMI function. The XFI is used for the interface, which is in fullcompliance with the XFP MSA protocol and hot pluggable. The optical module testsystem is set up. The optical eye diagram are tested by CSA8200of Tektronixcompany, the BER are tested by TG1B1-A of CENTELLAX company.The XFPoptical transceiver module is compliant with the INF-8077i protocol and iscompatible with SFF-8472protocol. The results of test indicate that the performance of XFP meet the requirementsof80Km Transmission distance, several key indications such as output optical power,extinction ratio, OMA, eye diagram and receiver sensitivity are leading in the similardomestic products. The research has achieved the desired object.
