With the developments of communication industry, fiber communication has become the indispensable nervous system of today's information society. Photoelectric devices and optical modules which can convert electricity into light and also convert light into electricity are the pivotal parts in the optical communication systems. They seemed as if a heart to the optical transmission system.This thesis begins with the research of working characteristic of optical active devices, then summarizes comprehensively the working principle, makeup, package, high-speed digital signal wiring of optical transceivers and also explore the actuality and development of various optical modules. It puts emphasis on the in-out structure and high-speed modulation characteristic for LD driver circuits. The transmission lines theory in optical module high speed circuits is also introduced detailedly in this thesis. On the basis of particular research, the author explores the optical module's application actuality and market demand and designs different grade optical modules which can meet with the demand for various applications, thereinto, the TTL-level optical module used for low-level access, 1x9 transceiver module according to STM1/STM4 rate used for access and transmission, STMl-rate Bidi module used for low-cost transmission have had a batch production and good reflect.This thesis carries on further research at the applications of the optical module applied to networks, for example, developing new-type optical transceiver based on fast Ethernet. Combined with current popular embedded system, this thesis introduces the data interface design for E1/T1 and Ethernet using PowerPC processor and the realization of transmitting sound, data signal on the optical fiber utilizing optical transceivers. It can extend multiform communication interfaces and reduce function flexibly, which can make up of hardware platform for various applications.In this study, the characteristic of photo active devices and the technology of optical transceiver modules are discussed thoroughly. Based on transmission lines theory, the optical modules schematic circuit diagram and PCB diagram are given. The modules can get high quality, but low price and anti-interference ability better. They constitute a series of products and are applied in different fields. Optical transceiver module combined with E1/T1 and Ethernet using PowerPC processor has extensive and practical means to real-time datum communication application.
