In various fields of modern society, computer network has inextricably linked to people’s lives. The role of computer network cannot be challenged. Moreover, the data center is the key of computer network. A large number of devices are deployed within the data center and their performance is a direct reflection of the data center service. Thus it is very necessary to monitor these devices. A SNMP-based network management system can provide real time monitoring for data center devices, bringing great convenience to the network management, as well as improving the data center’s service quality and efficiency.This thesis first studies the techniques and solutions for computer network monitoring. Considering the real monitoring requirements of digital simulation platform for high-speed train, we then select the most widely used SNMP Network Management Protocol in network monitoring. By taking advantage of the C/S framework, the devices in the data center can be monitored on a single platform.The overall system that this paper designed and implemented is divided into performance management, fault management and control management. At the performance management aspect, it cyclically queries agent MIB about the related devices’running information according to a polling mechanism, and then integrates and calculates these information. Eventually, it realizes the real-time monitoring of parameters of devices’running performance. In addition, we also designed a method to monitor the UPS performance parameters by bridging and using the serial communication control from a local computer. On the other hand, at the fault management aspect, it sets the Port162to receive the Trap alarm and sends fault alarms to relevant managers via e-mail. At the control management aspect, it sends commands via sockets, receives commands from Daemon at the device side, executes instructions according to the local operation system API, and eventually realizes the process control.Finally, various functional modules are studied. The test results show that the designed data center monitoring system reaches a comprehensive real-time performance monitoring for data center devices, especially at fault and control aspects, and achieves the expected monitoring purpose.
