Along with the rapid development of computer technology and continuous enhancement of marine automation, marine automation technology has been constantly transferred towards marine automation integration. Beyond the regional, simplex and independent monitoring and management, higher requirement on large-scale, multi-level and centralized monitoring&management system has been proposed. Ethernet (TCP/IP) communication technology, widely used in the industrial automation, is the network protocol with promising application prospect, based on which the research for the marine engine room grassroots network control unit turns out to be pivotal to the development for the marine automation as a whole.In this thesis, a marine engine room grassroots network control unit based on Ethernet technology and embedded technology is designed and realized, consisting of digital input unit(DI),digital output unit(DO),analog input unit(AI) and analog output unit(AO).On the basis of analysis of data processing standards and Ethernet technology, solution based on ARM+Ethernet controller architecture is used in the IO unit of the system. The ARM controller, LPC2214which is made by Philips company and the Ethernet controller is W5100which is made by WIZnet company utilized, some functional module circuits such as the peripheral interface circuit, the power supply circuit, data input and output interface circuit are designed. Code Warrior for ARM Developer Suite1.2programming software completes initialization code of each device, logical processing function code and network communication code. By means of PC debugging simulation software programmed with C#programming language, the IO unit has realized information interaction and system simulation test.Marked with low cast, low power, utilization convenience and high reliability and many other advantages, the marine10unit based on Ethernet can realize the information collection and processing in marine engine room. It also can use Ethernet to communicate with the computer and controller in network layer in order to realize grassroots data information sharing and the whole shiphoard system information sharing. This system, as a part of the project "Dalian Maritime University DMS2011C Full Mission Engine Room Simulator Series", has been successfully used in the grass-roots network control unit of simulator system at present.In practical application, defects have been exposed though, they can be amended and the marine IO unit based on Ethernet consummated gradually. If authenticated by the classification society in the future, it is worth the generalization in ship application.
