Firstly, based on the analysis of the structure characteristics and development trend of the automation of marine engine room as well as an in-depth investigation of the Field-bus technology, a new Field-bus based on ship network system is put forward in this paper. Furthermore the author has discussed a typicalField-bus technology——CAN (Controller Area Network) and its relatedproblems, such as history, performance, specification, implementation etc. Then, summarize descriptions will go to the design of the intelligent node based on CAN bus. Finally, combined with the actual application of the T50A Ship, analysis and discussion will also be given to the automation of power station andmain engine remote control and monitoring system——the two important partsof automation of marine engine room. CAN Field-bus is adopted, which is extremely convenient for the automation of power station and main engine remote control and monitoring system.It is proved by the practice of the project that the data communication of CAN has outstanding characteristics about reliability, realtime, and flexibility, therefore is very suitable for the construction of monitoring and control system of marine engine room. This research direction is adapted to the international development trend.
