With the demand of financial liberalization and internationalization, the competition among commercial banks is increased sharply. Especially since the 2007 global financial crisis, most commercial banks have to set it as basic principle to reduce costs, improve customer satisfaction and strive for quality customer. As the direct communication channel between bank and customer, statement means far more beyond the function for reconciliation. Statement somehow reflects the level of bank customer service. Currently in most banks, statements are processed separately for saving, time deposit, investment, loan, credit card etc. This results in high cost due to redundant effort in each business module and waste of bank resource. While for customers, they cannot get direct information about their overall financial status via the separated statements.This paper is to cover the deficiencies for statement generation in commercial bank. It aims to setup a system for combined statement. The system is based on mainframe platforms, coded with procedure-oriented language COBOL, Job Control Language and CICS. The process is based on mainframe dataset (QSAM and VSAM). The paper firstly analyzes related parameters for combined statement system. Then based on this, it comes out with the detail architecture to integrate and sort the information from existing business modules like customer information and other financial product modules, including saving, time deposit, investment, loan, credit card etc. The print file is generated via PAPYRUS formatting engine. This combined statement system can cater for both paper statement and electronic statement. Last but not least, the system also enables the cycle to date statement request and past statement request.The implementation of combined statement system will effectively integrate banking resource and provide customer a statement with combined information. Also specific financial information can be offered via the combined statement. Customers can know better about themselves and the market, make proper plan and decision. So it is obviously can improve customer satisfaction. For bank, statement cost is reduced. Furthermore electronic statement enables the support for environment protection.
