This is a translation project report on Cities and Urban Cultures by DeborahStevenson, from which I chose Chapter6The City as Spectacle: Culture and theReimaging of Cities as the source text. The source text mainly discusses the issues ofglobalization, urbanism, cultural planning and cultural citizenship. The main contentof this report is divided into four parts: Part One is the translation project description, including project background, objectives and significance. Part Two is the backgroundof the source text, including introduction of the author, main content of the source text, linguistic features of the source text, and evaluation and review of the source text. PartThree is about translation difficulties and methods, including preparations beforetranslation and examples of using translation methods in the process of translation.Part Four concludes with the lessons, implication and unsolved problems in thetranslation project.Underpinned by Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the reporter argued andemphasized the importance of “Functional Equivalence” in EST translation.
