Insisting on building the development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, China’s urbanization process is different from that in western capitalist countries. With the improvement of our country’s comprehensive strength, Chinese urbanization has attracted great attention from foreign scholars, who want to get some experience and lessons. With this situation, the translator wants to make a modest contribution for understanding of Chinese unique urbanization process. This is a Chinese-English translation report on the Ninth Chapter of The Rise of Cities: Urban System Theory and Urbanization in China, which is written by Liu Chuncheng and Hou Hanpo. As Non-Literary translation, the purpose of this thesis is to pass on information and promote culture exchanges between China and abroad. Proposed by translation theorist Eugene Nida, the Functional Equivalence theory focuses on the functional equivalence between two languages rather than the rigid corresponding to words. Based on the Functional Equivalence theory, the thesis is completed smoothly. After the translation, the translator deeply realizes the difficulty of translating about urbanization. The translator not only needs to ensure the accuracy of choosing words, but also needs to pay attention to different ways of expression, which can makes target audience get the same experience as in the source country. The translator must have solid foundation and language transformation ability, and combine translation theory with strategies, to improve translation capacity.
