This paper is a translation project report on Multiple roles of student and instructor in university teaching and learning processes. The source text (ST) is an academic paper published in The International Journal of Management Education. Using Checkland’s CATWOE mnemonic and the SIPOC model from lean operations theory, the text analyses six key university teaching and learning processes. The analysis shows that both students and teachers play multiple roles in teaching and learning processes. In the meantime, the awareness among instructors and students of multiple roles will improve the ability of universities to carry out their teaching and learning mission. The translation report firstly introduces the background, target, significance and structure of the report, and then analyses the linguistic features of the ST. The report holds that the translator should make translation equivalent both in the information and the meaning for that the ST is full of academic color and conveys a large amount of information. Therefore, based on the stylistic features and sentence structure features of the academic paper and under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the translation report applies some translation methods including conversion, amplification and omission, the extension of the word, the conversion of the active voice and passive voice, long sentence to the translation of the text and the method to the translation of special sentence pattern of academic paper. Besides, some experience and lessons are drawn from this practice to make translation skill more proficiency, hoping that it can give a reference to the future translation.
