With the deepening of the Reform and Opening-up Policy, the national standard of living continues to improve and the spiritual and cultural needs are increasing, people’s needs for the update of the old living environment will also increase. The work of“reconstruction of old city”enters into a new historical period; it is a period of scientific development, and also the critical moment for the gradually forming of a perfect system and the protection of ancient city with Chinese characteristics. Successful cases, such as the theory of historic city conservation, conservation planning of historic cities and the updating and reconstruction of historic cities, have appeared in the vision of urban planners, and their success has gradually formed our existing theoretical framework and planning orientation. Similarly, the conservation and supervision system of historic city is not perfect, which leads to the destruction in the process of“reconstructing old districts”of urban historical sites; the irreversible destruction caused due to wrong planning location and implement team; and the limited funds for the maintenance and repair results in the phenomenon of "much cry and little done" in the restoration of cultural relics. This scrawled perfunctory phenomenon in the construction process of ancient city in our countries’is not uncommon. The old districts (old town) in the historic city (ancient city) are evolved from the process of historical development. They are the areas with the most vitality and sense of place in the city, and also the modern city with traditional culture and regional characteristic. However, with the progress of era and the development technology, these areas is no longer adapted to the new demands of urban space in the new era, and they are gradually moving towards the depression and decline. In the process of“reconstruction of old districts”, for various reasons, it is difficult to form collaborative relationships for the theory, planning, public participation, management and implementation, and even there exists some differences and contradictions. In this context, the thesis adopts the method of interdisciplinary research, which has done some research on the relevant recovery mode and system in these old districts of some domestic and foreign historic cities (old towns, the historic districts) of the old cities, and actively explores the ancient history as the new city’s the possibility of economic growth point. Learning from the successful strategies of the regional revival of ancient history in some developed countries, and on the basis of interpreting the decline and outmoded mechanism of the ancient cities’history, which forms the cause of the decline of the historic districts in these ancient cities, and further study the industry orientation of the revival of the historic districts in the ancient cities. At the same time, according to our country’s current historical development stage and legal and regulatory framework, measures that correspond to the regional revival of the ancient history are summed up. This thesis is divided into seven chapters and seven parts:Part one is introduction, and on the basis of explicating the research scope, it explains the background, significance and the academic attitude and orientation in the process of selecting the thesis topic, and it also confirms the research object and cases selected.Part two draws on the successful experience of some developed countries for the revival work of the historic districts in the ancient cities, and summarizes the work of the history, success and failure of the“reconstruction of old districts”, then further to gain the merits by comparing and analyzing the cases in home and abroad.Part three analyzes the ancient cities’historic districts from many aspects including the decline and the dying out of the historic buildings, and then initially forms the basis of the thesis.Part four differentiates and analyses the overall positioning and industry orientation from many aspects of the revival in the historic districts.Part five proposes some comprehensive measures for the revival of the historic districts in the ancient cities.Part six selects ancient city Qingzhou as a study case to conduct theory practice, and then to guide the revival of the histo0ric districts in the ancient cities.Part seven summarizes the thesis and further looks forward to the future on the planning and scheming in the process of revival of the historic districts in the ancient cities.
