CAN bus has been widely applied in the domain of communications, industrial measurement and aerospace. It adopts many new technologies, and can be considered the most promising filed bus. Therefore, it is necessary to design a cPCI-CAN communication card to build the transmission between cPCI bus and CAN bus.The core of this design is to establish a hardware circuit as the converter with FPGA, which based on the PCI bus communication standard and CAN2.0 technical specifications. Hardware is built in accordance with the structure including cPCI bus interface module, data processing module and CAN bus interface module. FPGA is used as control chip of the data processing module. It controls both ends of the buses with rigorous logic current constructed by the VerilogHDL and state machine technology. In the design of cPCI bus interface module, selection of the mature interface chip can ensure that the module will coordinate complex PCI bus timing. And in the design of CAN Bus interface module, selection of specific CAN bus protocol chip and driver chip is good to match the CAN bus protocol and its physical properties. The cPCI-CAN is configured with dual-channel CAN bus, so that it is easy to test the function of transition and receptionive by each other and expansion of the CAN bus.The drive software is developed by Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, Driverstudio 3.2 and DDK, while the top layer application software is design by LabWindows/CVI.The communication card works properly through the on-line testing. The PC can be a qualified dual channel CAN bus data transceiver, to complete the setting of various frame format and baud rate. The data of transmission satisfy the requirements of CAN bus data. The card can be applied in the industrial measurement thanks to its high-performance and low prices.
