In recent years, with rapid economic development, the urban population is expanding and car ownership is also increasing gradually in China. Following as a result more and more problems of urban traffic are appearance. Such as Traffic congestion, traffic congestion, noise pollution, air pollution and so on. The sustainable development of cities and the normal life of residents are seriously affected. It is imperative to vigorously develop urban public transport. Intelligent transportation system is combination of multiple technologies contained with modern control technology, positioning technology and wireless communication technology. Because of its construction the corporate management of public transport can be improved. Operating efficiency and service levels in public transportation system can be enhanced. It is a fundamental program to solve urban traffic problems.Intelligent on-vehicle terminal is the message source of the intelligent transportation system and the key part of the system. Based on study intelligent public transport at home and abroad and existing GPS, GPRS and other technologies, the design and development method of intelligent on-vehicle terminal based on ARM is proposed. It consists of the overall design of the terminal, the key technology research, software design, product realization, etc. In the overall design, the status of on-vehicle terminal in intelligent transportation systems, its overall structure and function of each module are introduced. In the key technology research, intelligence stop-report, wireless communications, information storage and other technologies are introduced. In software design, RTX operating system, software design framework and communication protocol are introduced. And detailed program flow charts are shown for the main function of the interrupt and task. In product realization, main module debug and functional test are introduced. And the final product is shown.After lots of tests and modifications, the intelligence stop-report, LCD liquid crystal display, wireless communications, alarm messages, voice reading and other functions have been achieved in the intelligent on-vehicle terminal. The terminal is running on the bus in Xichang city and the desired effect is achieved. The driver and passengers have a good opinion and the reputations are well.
